I listened to Madonna from long time ago now and only got it quite recently that her best period was when John Jellybean Benitez was remixing her tunes for her. Holiday, Borderline, Lucky Star just so enigmatic and probably not that much to really do with old Madge. I honestly don't think she could write her way out of a paper bag by herself.
